BIO: Omar Ledezma Omar Ledezma will never forget the day he was called to fly from New York to Los Angeles to provide percussion and vocals, live and in sessions with Andy Vargas, the lead singer for Carlos Santana. Naturally all days cannot be as auspicious, but one such as that is an indication of the caliber of musicianship Ledezma has become internationally known for. There have been countless musical highlights and an endless list of sessions, videos and live performances in every genre of music on both the east and left coast. Celebrity success was only the dream of a child that grew in the streets on Caracas. While the music of the streets played day and night, music was burned into the soul of this gifted young boy. It was inevitable that the age of 13 would find this child performing his first concerts. The age of 17 found him performing in every corner of his native country. National musical acclaim rested light on the shoulders of Ledezma as 1995 found him a graduate of one of the most prestigious Law Schools in Caracas, Venezuela. In 1998 Omar Ledezma packed one bag and one drum to begin his move to Boston, Massachusetts after making a passionate commitment to study at Berklee College of Music. Boston held many challenges and provided many opportuinities. Collaboration with major percussionists such as Nicki Marrero, Gerardo Rosales, Giovanni Hidalgo and Fausto Cuevas have proven to be life changing lessons and these have become life long friends. They say that there is a war raging in the music world. On one side of the battle field stands the forces of tradition. Sworn to history and enamored with heritage, they worship the musicians of yesteryear and deify musicians long-dead. On the other side of the battlefield are the forces of innovation, warriors of the future. They challenge authority and insist that music be ahead of the times.. Omar Ledezma's commitment is not to "bring the music back" or "take the music forward" but it thrives upon embracing "the existing". Since 1989 Ledezma has found himself a resident of 35 different bands and orchestras, touring on U.S. soil and internationally. Recreating music of the past, creating music of the future and living the music of the NOW!!!
